Receiving points on your driving record will increase your insurance premiums and, when you accumulate points, you may be required to pay an annual surcharge. Additionally, if you accumulate 12 or more points on your license, there is a very good chance that your license will be suspended. This will radically affect multiple aspects of your life, including being able to retain employment if you have no way of commuting to your job.
