When you do, this should prompt them to contact a municipal judge, who may then grant you a temporary restraining order.
Once you are granted a Temporary Restraining Order, you will be assigned a court date within 10 days of the issuance of the TRO, when you will attend a hearing in the Superior Court to determine if the Temporary Restraining Order should become permanent. At that time you will be required to prove to the Court that an incident of domestic violence occurred, which proof may be via testimony, texts, photos, or any other type of admissible evidence, and that a final restraining order is required for your safety. If you meet this burden, the Court should grant a final restraining order against your abuser.
